Atelier Odae artisan knifemaker

Pierre Thomas has always been passionate about history and knifemaking. He decided to turn this passion into reality by setting up his own knifemaking workshop, where he expresses his mindset through his unique models and creations.
Atelier ÔdaeBased in Thiers, the world-renowned French capital of cutlery, Atelier Ôdae was established in 2017. Pierre offers a varied range of folding knives, from friction folders to exceptional pieces. His aim is to provide high-quality products, carefully and precisely handmade.
The Values of Our Creations
The key words of our creations are: Quality, Elegance and Precision. Pierre Thomas, originally from Sarlat-la-Canéda in Dordogne and passionate about the Middle Ages from an early age, began forging his first blades when he was young.
Pierre Thomas's Career Path
After obtaining a BAC and a BTS in Electrical Engineering, Pierre decided to devote himself fully to his passion by going to Thiers to learn the trade of knifemaker. At the CFAI in Thiers, he obtained the CAP "Cutting and Surgical Instruments" qualification through a two-year work-study programme at Atelier Perceval. Under the guidance of Laurent BEAL, he mastered the manufacture of various types of knives, fixed and folding alike, including all types of mechanisms and finishes.
Experience and Expertise
Since the end of 2020, Pierre has also been a part-time trainer at the CFAI. Before setting up his business, he worked for nearly three years at the Thiers Cutlery Museum. This rewarding experience enabled him to deepen his skills alongside Yassine KALFA and Benjamin GIRARD, two renowned knifemakers from the museum workshops. There, he learned the art of knifemaking, from the finesse of perfectly adjusted mechanisms to working with the most precious materials.
