Handcrafted Knife by Lourens Prinsloo
Lourens Prinsloo made his first knife in 1992, shortly after attending a knifemaking course with Owen Wood. He became a member of the Knifemakers' Guild of Southern Africa only two years later, in 1998.
Before retiring in 2016, Lourens taught engineering, graphic design, woodworking and metalworking. These diverse skills greatly helped him meet the many challenges involved in creating his knives.
Lourens focuses mainly on making gentleman's folding knives, notably liner locks. He uses a variety of steels, including his famous mosaic Damascus, which he forges himself in his workshop in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. Lourens developed this unique Damascus after becoming friends with renowned American bladesmith Cliff Parker. Over the years, Lourens has won numerous awards for his mosaic Damascus, including the award for best gentleman's folding knife, best art knife, as well as distinctions for his own Damascus of the highest quality.
Lourens regularly takes part in the Durban Easter Knife Show, the Knifemakers' Guild of Southern Africa show, FXI (Paris) and NYCKS.
