The revival of Laguiole knife-making in its historical area dates back to the 1980s. At that time, knife-making craftsmanship had declined in the 1920s in the face of the industrialisation of cutlery production in the Thiers region. Keen to preserve the local craft tradition, LAGUIOLE EN AUBRAC established a forge in the village of Montézic, near Laguiole. Three other artisan cutlers joined this pioneering initiative.

The LAGUIOLE EN AUBRAC forge shapes the metal components of the knife before they are entrusted to cutlers for polishing and various finishes, including guilloché work on the blades and springs, among others.

Manufacture of bolsters and liners:

Working stainless steel and brass, from their raw state through to cutting them to form the bolsters and liners.

The sturdy bolsters and liners are cut from locally made dies. Brass is used to shape the bolsters, thereby reinforcing the knife handle. These bolsters are manually fixed to the liners (the bolstering operation) and drilled to assemble the knife using brass pins as well. To continue your selection: Major brands · Folding knives.
